SUMMARY

1 English law is constantly changing, with Parliament introducing completely new laws as well as amending existing statutes; the courts continuing to develop the common law; and European Union legislation continuing to flow. English lawyers also need to monitor the content of European Court of Human Rights case-law (even though the fact that it does not automatically enter English law means that its impact is only indirect).

2 It is important to be aware of new resources which can help you to keep up-to-date, as well as monitoring existing ones.

3 Citing your sources in accordance with the standard conventions will help you communicate your knowledge of the law to other people.
