SUMMARY

1 The system of courts within the English legal system is hierarchical, with each court exercising one or more of three jurisdictions, namely first instance, appellate and supervisory.

2 In addition to the courts of the domestic English legal system, the European Court of Justice (together with the General Court) and the European Court of Human Rights must also be taken into account.
