Introduction

We have dealt with the sources of EU law, and its reception into English law, in the previous chapter (see pp. 28–32). However, the fact that we are now discussing the constitutional context of the English legal system makes it appropriate to deal here with the basic question of the supremacy of EU law over the laws of the member states; and, more particularly, its supremacy over English law.
