Introduction

As a student, you will have to consult many books, journals, law reports, statutes and European materials in order to find the law. You will not always have a great deal of time to search for the law you need.

Knowing, therefore, where to find the relevant law, and how to search for it, is a skill well worth learning at an early stage of your law studies.

We will examine the materials you are most likely to use in your studies, including both paper-based and electronic materials. Increasingly, the electronic resources available are Internet-based, although you may also still encounter some sources on CDs and DVDs. All modern students of law must, therefore, have at least basic IT skills which they can develop, if necessary, while acquiring knowledge of the specialist legal sources.
