What to Do When You Are Not Happy

Assuming you've taken steps to maximize your happiness, what do you do if you still are struggling? Again, we aren't mental health experts but offer you the following:

1. Ask if your unhappiness is coming from your professional life or personal life.

Or both. Sometimes unhappiness gets a little cloudy as to the cause.

2. Try to determine whether this is short-term unhappiness, for example, you dislike a particular assignment or client, or a long-term trend. If short term, maybe you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

3. Many lawyers choose therapists to help them through rough parts of their lives.

4. If all else fails, it may be time to look for a different employer.

At the end of the day keep one thing in mind. This is just a job. It's not your entire life. You can always use your skills to do something else, and we'll explore some of those options next.
