Set Boundaries for Your Personal Life

This might be the hardest one, especially as the junior person on the team. It's super important that you are not on the clock 24/7, 365. It happens. Many of us have been there. As a junior person, you are being hit on two sides: clients and senior lawyers at your employer.

It's tough and it can be nonstop if you allow it to happen. The work-from-home culture created during COVID may seem cool, but in some ways, it's completely blurred the lines between being home and being at work.

You need to set boundaries that allow you to enjoy your life outside of work. This also may allow you to be present to those around you. As you get more comfortable in your position, you can clearly lay out what you're willing to do and what you are not. When you are on a vacation, you'll need to be able to actually take that vacation or you will burn out. This is why having a great team around you is important as they can pick up the workload you are missing.

Unfortunately, some employer cultures do not allow this. That is a choice that you'll have to consider as you choose employers.
