Don't Get Too Wrapped Up in Your Work

We've talked about how important it is to empathize with your colleagues and clients. You've heard from clients saying they want partners and people who truly understand their goals. It is possible to get too close to the lab rat, however, and you need to keep a certain amount of healthy distance. These aren't your problems, your businesses, your defense, or your divorce. While you need to sit as a partner with someone, you also need to leave their anxiety and worries in the office before you go home that night.

Disconnecting is healthy for a lot of obvious reasons, but none more so than how this will affect others around you. There are far too many stories of lawyers too involved with their clients' problems who were no longer able to deliver objective advice.
