No matter what area of the law you go into, you will find yourself negotiating. Despite what we see in movies, most negotiations are between parties wanting to resolve an issue together and come to an agreement. Yes, there are plenty of winner-take-all situations in litigation, but the majority of negotiations involve two parties trying to work together for both to be better off.There are plenty of treatises on negotiations; however, this chapter walks through negotiation tactics that have worked well for us over the years. We go through a range of negotiation tactics to use in your life, and we illustrate some of the different types of characters you'll meet along the way.
