Assuming Other Lawyers Are Good People

Law school teaches about ethics and proper lawyerly conduct. However, they don't talk much about the real world once everyone is “out in the wild.” Let's face it, the level of egregiousness that conduct must rise to for a court to get involved is massively high. Don't assume that everyone is playing by the rules and doing the right thing. You or your client could be the ones hurt by this naivety. Never assume, until you get to know someone, that they are playing by the rules you learned in class.
