Conclusion

The history of Mauritius, as has been seen, is not solely Mauritian history. Its major political and legal developments were, and continue to be, closely linked to that of the powerful nations at any given time. The evolution of its diverse people from colonial influence to a free nation occurred in fairly recent history. Mauritius therefore presents a unique setting in which to examine the impact political and legal changes had on identities individually and collectively.
