Structure

This article discusses how a legal dashboard can help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of a legal department and demonstrate the added value of legal. I advocate that configuring some form of a legal dashboard is one of the first things a legal department should do to optimize management of the legal function.

First, I will discuss legal thinking and traditional legal education and the influence they have on the legal profession and legal practice. I will then go on to elaborate on the concept of legal departments, the legal function and managing the legal function, concluding with the benefits and pitfalls of a legal dashboard. Throughout the article, the focus is on commercial organizations, although many concepts will apply equally to public and non-profit organizations.
